Cross Country Season underway!

Youngsters Bryn Woodall, Tomos Land and Bethan Davies led the way for Colwyn Bay Athletic Club in the first meeting of the Grand Prix Express North Wales Cross-Country League.

Woodall was an excellent second out of 15 runners in the under-17 boys’ race when the league kicked off in Wrexham at the weekend – beaten only by Mike Spill of Menai Track & Field.

His club-mate Land finished fourth under-20 – and 30th overall – out of 162 finishers in the men’s race. And Davies, also an U20 athlete, placed 23rd of 160 in the women’s race.

Anne Mynott was second vet-55 in the women’s race, with Maureen Singleton second V75.

The men’s race was won by Alex Lanz of Meirionydd, while the women’s winner was Ali Lavender Rawlinson of Oswestry Olympians.

A week earlier, Colwyn Bay athletes began their campaign in the North Staffordshire Cross-Country League with some solid performances.

The men’s team were led by home in the first fixture in Winsford by Rich Watson in 102nd place (out of 290 finishers), with Anne Mynott first for the women in 55th place (234 finishers).

Colwyn Bay host the second fixture in the North Wales Cross-Country league at Fox Hills on October 19, while the next round of the North Staffordshire league is at Stafford Common a week after that.
