Senior and U17 Indoor Championship Report

Saturday 18th January

Great action from our athletes down in Cardiff today for the first day of the Welsh indoor senior and under 17 championships.

First to race today was Ruben, enjoying a great first race since his step up to the under 17 age group in the 1500m. Ruben finished 7th overall with a time of 4.35.97 and knocked almost 20 seconds off his previous personal best!!

Next up was Lydia who had a phenomenally busy day racing in both the heats and finals for both the 60m and 300m. Lyds came 4th overall in the final of the 300m, narrowly missing out on a medal by 0.09s with a time of 45.27. In the 60m final, Lydia finished 8th with a time of 8.71.

Cari also sailed through the 60m heats with a time of 8.18 before claiming a 4th place in the final with a time of 8.26s. Jake also had a busy day racing both the 60m and 400m. He was 4th in his 60m heat narrowly missing a place in the final with a time of 7.68. He was 3rd in his 400m heat with a time of 56.78.

Kane who has this year moved up to the senior age group raced in a hugely competitive 400m. He placed 3rd in his heat with a time of 54.16 narrowly missing a place in the semi-final. Well done to you all ????????????

Sunday 19th January

Wow wow wow! Another fantastic day at 48th Welsh Indoor Senior, U17 & Para T&F Championships in Cardiff where Colwyn Bay Athletes did us proud!

First up was Lydia who flew round her U17 women’s 200m heat coming in second place and securing herself a place in the semi-finals. She pulled another great performance out of the bag in the semi-finals with a 29.13s. Well done Lydia! ????

Jake was also running the 200m but in the U17s Men’s event. Jake had a fantastic heat, coming in second to secure himself a place in the semi-finals. He put in a very admirable performance in the semi-finals in a time of 24.96 seconds but unfortunately this didn’t see him progress to the finals. A semi-final place in his first every indoor championships, well done Jake ????

Jacob was competing in the Senior Men’s long jump today and, after reporting feeling better after months of injury recovery, he achieved a great jump of 6.48m - well done Jacob and best wishes for the rest of the season ????

Kane competed in the Senior Men’s 200m. He ran a really strong 24.16 seconds but in a large, competitive group with 6 opening heats this wasn’t quite fast enough to secure a place in the finals this time. Kane is looking forward to a strong outdoor season ????.

Ruben was running the U17 800m today. He was on fire for his heat running a solid 2.11.90. Taking approx. 4 seconds off his previous personal best (PB). This performance secured him a place in the final, unfortunately the final didn’t see him coming in placed but again another solid performance to be proud of. Well done Ruben ????.

Unfortunately Cari had to withdraw from today’s races due to injury. We wish her a very speedy recovery ??‍????

Thank you officials, parents and siblings who have given up their weekends to ensure the athletes can take part, it wouldn’t happen without you! - team effort ???? Thank you!
