Weekend Round Up

It has been a busy weekend of action for our athletes with cross country, fell and road races taking place in Newtown, Stafford, Pen and Conwy over the weekend.

 

Newtown in mid Wales was the beautiful but muddy battleground for the Welsh inter-regional cross country championships where a team from North Wales took on teams from South, East and West Wales. Colwyn Bay AC’s Russ (v55), Helen (v55), Ella (u20), Ciara (u17) and Alfie (u15) were all selected for the North Wales team and with strong performances all round on the tough course, Helen helped her age group team to silver in the interregional challenge while Ella, Ciara and Alfie all helped nail gold medal victories for the team in their respective age groups. As an added bonus, with all races counted, North Wales claimed overall victory on the day.

Commiserations to Megan (u11) who travelled to Newtown to compete in the primary age group races,. After leading the large field of girls through the race, Megan had to pull up with injury. We hope you’re on the mend soon.

 

 

Over in Penmaenmawr, Colwyn Bay athletes Gwyn, Greg and Anne pushed themselves for 11 miles on a gruelling fell run which included over 590m of ascent over the mountains above Pen. Congratulations to Gwyn and Anne who both won age group prizes.

 

Meanwhile, slightly west of Wales our senior men Jared, Emyr and Chris all travelled to Stafford to compete in the North Staffs XC league over a 4 mile course. Great to see Emyr enjoy donning his competition shoes after a 4 year break.

 

Finally, last but by no means least, Sunday saw the annual Conwy Half Marathon which also features the famous junior race. Athletes are given the opportunity to race 1.8km on closed roads across the Conwy bridge and back in front of a packed crowd. Great to see so many of our athletes taking part and fantastic to have Eira (age 14) from our middle distance group the overall race winner in an absolutely fantastic time of 6.37s!

 

Da iawn pawb, well done to you all!

 

And well done to all who ran in todays Conwy half….it looked quite brutal out there.
