Thirteen club athletes travelled to the new blue track of the Cardiff International Sports Stadium this weekend for the Welsh Schools Championships. For the 8th successive year, the championships made up part of the Urdd’s Gemau Cymru, a festival weekend of sport offering talented athletes the opportunity to compete in high profile sporting events.
Representing their schools and regions, Colwyn Bay athletes took home a total of 10 championship medals.
Gold went to Alex Roberts in the middle boys 800m who won in a time of 2.01.64. Holly Roberts took gold in the senior girls 1500m with a personal best of 4.48.01. Moli Jones claimed gold in the senior girls 200m in a time of 26.45s while Sacha Didcote earned gold in the middle girls 300m with a season’s best of 40.97s.
Silver went to Roman Hodgson in the junior boys 800m, Moli Jones won silver in the senior girls 100m with teammate Jennifer Townley taking bronze. Jennifer also won silver in the senior girls 200m. Bryn Woodall took bronze in the 1500m steeplechase while Sacha Didcote also won silver in the middle girls 200m.
