Warrington Youth development league (YDL)
Saturday, and a windy Warrington track saw the final round of this year’s YDL for Colwyn Bay. A strong team of 19 athletes decided they were going to spend the first day of the summer holidays earning points for Colwyn Bay AC and ran, jumped and threw themselves to an amazing 2nd placed team overall on the day with only the hosts Warrington AC managing to hold us off the top slot. This has improved our standing to a very respectable 3rd overall in our division, well done everybody 👏💪👍😊🙌
We had a number of athletes who were competing at the league for the first time; Kane Smart, Harvey and Hayden Meyers and Ethan Roberts. All pulled out spectacular performances and certainly made their mark on the competition. Don’t forget to look out for your times when the results go up on Power of 10 website 👍👍
The relays are always the final events of the day and can certainly be dramatic and exciting. At the last YDL, disappointingly we only managed to field one team in one event out of a potential 6. This weekend was certainly a huge improvement as we were able to produce a fantastic four relay teams all of who helped end the day on a great high and leaving all the athletes and spectators buzzing. The last event of the day, the u15 girls 4 x 300m possibly producing the most exciting finishes of the whole league! It was great to finish the whole competition with a well earned victory for the girls beating their rivals Warrington by a second!
The team spirit of the athletes, coaches and parents has to be congratulated. The day ran smoothly as everyone worked together setting up ‘camp’ with the gazebo, flags and chairs. Parents helped out ensuring athletes were on time for their races and cheering on all the team. It also has be mentioned how some parents stepped up to help out with officiating field events. Without officials, the competitions wouldn’t be able to go ahead and at the YDL it is an expectation that each club offers a team of officials to ensure smooth running of events. Currently Colwyn Bay AC has a shortage of trained officials, however, under the guidance of coach Phil Oliver we now have a number of parents who are on their way to earning their level 1 field officials qualifications 👏👏🌟🌟
Well done everybody!! Don’t forget the closing date for the Wrexham Open on August 17th is approaching.
Please speak to your coaches or Emma and John in the tram if you need any information about this event 😊
